Inclusion Matters: International Day For the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
Forced To Flee Advocacy Statement
21 March 2023
21 March 2023
This anti-racism day, we want to highlight the importance of inclusion of refugees, migrants, asylum seekers, and forcibly displaced people into societies. Inclusion, according to the dictionary, is the policy of providing equal access to opportunities and resources for people who might otherwise be excluded or marginalised.
So why does it matter? Inclusion gives a voice to the previously voiceless. It helps deconstruct hierarchical structures of people based on race, which promote indifference to minorities, highlighted by the current treatment of migrants and refugees around the world. Inclusion, the respect for difference and diversity, are integral in fighting international common challenges like climate change, global health pandemics, human rights injustice, and global refugee crises.
This international day for the elimination of racial discrimination, Forced To Flee stand with peoples across the world who have been forcibly displaced as a result of the colour of their skin.
Every human deserves and must be treated with dignity, and respect, no matter what they look like. Today and everyday, we must commit to fight racism in all of its forms for the safety and future of our common humanity.
