Forced To Flee is a global non-profit organisation, advocating for refugees around the world, founded in 2018 because we believe we can do better. Led and run by youth, we are committed to empowering young people across the world to lead and get involved in conversations around migration because this is a society-wide effort.
Our work bridges rigorous research, compelling communications, and bold advocacy to amplify the realities of displaced communities and influence policy. We are transitioning from a youth project into a recognized research and advocacy hub, building institutional credibility and centering Global South–led knowledge creation.

START A NEW CONVERSATION
Discourse around migration has become toxic and hostile - and it is all young people have ever known. We aim to inject a fresh, authentic youth voice that boldly models a new way to discuss migration as a normal constant of human life. Starting this new conversation is essential to creating an environment where we can all commit to protecting those who need protection.
RECENTER KNOWLEDGE PRODUCTION
A wealth of knowledge is being built about displaced communities, without them. We strive to recentre knowledge production in Global South and displaced communities, embracing diverse knowledge sources and genuinely participatory ways of working - ensuring partnerships are non-extractive and, where appropriate, communities are empowered to act on findings themselves.
CREATE CONDITIONS FOR CHANGE
The hostility currently pervading migration discourse is crippling progress on even the most basic human-rights-based reforms. Alongside starting a new conversation, we therefore endeavour to create conditions for change beyond the policy sphere - producing multi-stakeholder research that equips the full range of actors who have capacity and appetite to act now.

Raise Awareness, Find Solutions
Our research investigates the changing drivers of forced migration. Taking a regional focus, our teams uncover the unique and untold experiences of displaced people local to their context. Whilst we believe in raising awareness, we are committed to providing actionable solutions - driving change.
Bridging rigorous research with storytelling, they produce outputs that are both analytically robust and deeply human — designed to be relevant and actionable across the full range of stakeholders, from policymakers to practitioners.
Raise Awareness, Implement Solutions
We advocate on national, regional and global stages to share the findings of our research, support its implementation, and encourage youth participation in refugee advocacy. Through partnerships with likeminded organisations across the world, running campaigns, raising awareness and empowering grassroots transformation, we are driven by the principle of converting policy into reality.
Our communications team translates research findings into engaging, accessible content that can resonate and spark broader conversation amongst those who may not otherwise discuss migration. Through formats like our podcast - which has featured guests including former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon and the MD of UNICEF Netherlands - we work to make these topics feel less daunting and alienating.
