STATEMENT ON MIGRANT DEATHS FOUND ON THE GREECE/TURKEY BORDER

Reported by Sky News, 12 migrants were found frozen to death near the Turkish border. Turkey claims that Greek border authorities 'pushed back' the migrants, and their bodies were found "without shoes and stripped of their clothes". One person died later in hospital after being rescued by Turkish authorities. Many forcibly displaced people reside in Turkey, with the country holding "3.7 million" Syrian refugees. Some of these people risk their lives to try and reach Greece and go onto Europe. Many unfortunately die.
This is a heartbreaking story. No person should have to suffer in such a way. Let's make this very clear, pushbacks are ILLEGAL. It is simply inhumane. No person chooses to flee their home and risk their life. Greece must be held accountable if true. No one should be left without their clothes when in search of safety. Greece, where is your humanity? Where is your decency? Where is your compassion? These people were human beings.
We demand immediate action & intervention to stop pushbacks immediately and a full investigation into its use by authorities. The European Commission must fulfil their duty to protect their rights and lives of those forced to flee. Migration is not illegal. Seeking asylum is not illegal. It is a human right.
We need your help! Write to your government, MEP or the European Commission to demand an investigation into these allegations and get justice for the 12 human beings who sadly died.
